I was involved in the (unofficial) efforts to get Playstation VR2 working with PCs. I am in no way affiliated with Sony.

The second picture is a family photo of all the boards I designed during the process. Chronologicaly, they were:

  • a breakout board to connect a USB analyzer with USB-A and USB-B connectors to the USB-C headset, back when we thought it was using VirtualLink
  • a breakout board to connect the analyzer, once we had figuread out it is actually using a standard DisplayPort aux mode
  • a breakout board to also break out DisplayPort connectivity, in case analyzing it was necessary. (It thankfuly wasn't)
  • an emulator board to intercept and change DisplayPort aux traffic. That was necessary, because the headset used to report incorrect information there, leading it to not work

Design files and more info about the emulator boards are on my GitHub account.

My involvement in the efforts was purely developing the hardware that can be seen in the pictures. All the software wizardry was done by others, namely (in alphabetical order) Androvsky, Evening Newbs, iVRy, Thaytan, and others.

The DP-aux emulator went through 3 revisions, mainly due to the manufacturability of USB-C connectors. The final version ended up using edge mounted connectors. While those needed more expensive tooling, they were more secure and didn't have defects with JLCPCB's assembly service. About 100 units of the final design were produced and distributed to interested buyers.
